Step flushing runs up the sides of the chimney while counterflashing fits into the grooves cut into the chimney and covers the step flashing. These parts require meticulous installation so that they can be effective in preventing water from running down the face of the chimney and into the attic. If you think your chimney flashing wasn’t properly installed, check the attic after a heavy rain, and look for signs of water around the chimney. Call a professional roofer if there are any.
Missing Kick-Out Flashing
Kick-out flashing is typically located at the spot where a roof edge meets a sidewall. It basically prevents roof runoff from flowing down the wall. Over time, this can result in rot destroying the sheathing and framing. Make sure you have a kick-out flashing to avoid this problem.
