Roof installation is an extensive, time-consuming project, so make sure you and your home are adequately prepared to avoid major issues throughout the process.
There are many things you should keep in mind before starting a roof installation.
Inform Your Neighbors and Make Plans for Your Family
Roof installation usually takes one to two days depending on the size of the project, weather conditions, etc. But regardless of its duration, you can expect it to be a noisy and disruptive process. Make sure to inform your neighbors, and consider how it will affect your family members, especially young children. If you have pets, it’s best to have them temporarily boarded in a pet service or a friend’s house since the construction noise could stress them out. For your family members, you might want to have them stay someplace else, like a relative’s house or comfortable, temporary lodging.
Prepare Your Yard and Driveway
Your yard will definitely be seeing a lot of debris and foot traffic, as your roofing installers go about and perform their tasks. That said, it is best to have your yard cleared and protected beforehand. Move your vehicles away from your driveway or garage since they will likely be at risk of being hit by falling debris. Keeping them in your driveway will hinder the roofers from accessing your home and moving materials and equipment. As for your yard, make sure to clear your garden, move your patio furniture to a safer space and cover your plants and landscaping with a tarp or netting.
Prepare Your Home
The roofers won’t work inside your home too much, but the roof installation may cause some vibrations on your walls. Your furniture and other items, especially those hanging on your walls, may get damaged. Secure the windows, and protect fragile items, such as plates, glasswork and other ceramics, by placing them away from walls or putting them in a separate container. Clear out your attic, and lay a tarp on the floor to protect it from dust and debris.
