GAF DecoTech® Solar Roofing
A typical solar installation involves adding a series of solar panels on an existing roof. Such installations are often a challenge for homeowners because the brackets need to be nailed or screwed onto the roof itself. Improper installation procedures can introduce leaks and potentially void the roofing warranty. There’s also the matter of aesthetics; solar panels often look out of place on a sloped roof, which affects the home’s curb appeal.
GAF takes the initiative in providing an integrated solar roofing system with DecoTech. Instead of a rack-mounted system, it features specially designed brackets installed along with the new roof. Coupled with the superior performance of the solar panels, you also get the reliable roofing system and warranties for which GAF is known.
Installation Process
Installation begins like a typical residential roof replacement. After the old roof is removed, the underlayment is installed onto the roof deck. After the starter strips are installed, the area is then prepared for solar panel installation. The brackets are then placed, and the panels are carefully attached and wired. Then, several layers of waterproofing are added to protect both the roof deck and the solar panels.
The Future
DecoTech will be rolled out over the next several months. GAF has mentioned that it will be available through certified roofing contractors.
