As Vancouver’s rainy season approaches, the chances of springing a leak somewhere overhead shoot through the roof (pun intended!). In the case of a leaky roof, it can be extremely beneficial to know some basic tips for roof repair in Richmond. 1. Locate the source of the leak. This sounds simple but may take some real detective work! Begin by searching for internal signs of leakage, such as ceiling spots or water in the attic. This will give you some idea of where to look on the roof. Cracks, tears and rot in the roofing material are all possible culprits, in addition to gaps around chimneys, skylights, vents and flashing.
2. Repair the leak. Remove and replace damaged shingles, being careful to cover nails and fill gaps with roofing cement. Leaks around roofing features (skylights, etc.) should also be patched with cement after the area is dry and clear of dirt and debris. Sheathing can be repaired in the same manner.
